Tickford’s Darwin Story: Waters Shines While Randle Endures Tough Weekend

The Darwin Triple Crown delivered another dramatic chapter in the 2025 Repco Supercars Championship, with Tickford Racing experiencing both the highs and lows of competition at Hidden Valley Raceway.

Tickford rolled into Darwin, unveiling a pair of striking Indigenous liveries designed by Noongar Wardandi, Bibulmun artist Joshua James. Featured on the #6 Monster Energy and #55 Castrol Racing Ford Mustangs, the artwork celebrated the personal journeys of Cameron Waters and Thomas Randle, while also recognising the connection between the drivers, team and Indigenous culture through powerful storytelling.

For Cameron Waters, the weekend showcased the speed that has made him one of the championship’s leading contenders. For teammate Thomas Randle, Darwin proved a far more challenging test as he battled through a difficult weekend in the Territory’s heat.

Waters Delivers Strong Pace

Waters delivered one of the standout performances across the Darwin weekend, consistently putting his Monster Castrol Racing Mustang on the front two rows of the grid.

Waters kicked off the Darwin Triple Crown in style with victory in Race 17, converting strong pace into a well-deserved win and demonstrating the speed of the Monster Castrol Racing Mustang from the outset of the weekend.

He backed that up with another impressive performance in Race 18, crossing the line in second place after remaining firmly in contention throughout the race and collecting valuable championship points.

The consistency continued in Race 19, where Waters once again featured among the front-runners and secured third place to complete a clean sweep of podium finishes across the weekend.

Randle Battles Through Adversity

Thomas Randle faced a challenging Darwin Triple Crown, but his determination and resilience were on full display throughout the weekend.

After qualifying 17th for Race 17, Randle worked his way forward through the field to finish 15th, gaining valuable positions and points in difficult conditions.

Race 18 offered a stronger starting position, with Randle lining up eighth on the grid. Despite showing promising pace, his race was compromised by a cool suit failure in the extreme Darwin heat. Battling through the discomfort, he fought on to take the chequered flag in 12th place before requiring assessment in the medical centre following the race.

Randle returned to the circuit on Sunday and took part in qualifying, however after further evaluation by the medical team it was decided that he would not compete in Race 19. With his health and safety the priority, the decision was made to withdraw him from the final race of the weekend.

Veteran Tickford Racing co-driver Mark Winterbottom stepped into the #55 Mustang for Race 19, bringing the car home in 22nd position.

While the results did not reflect the potential shown throughout the weekend, Randle's perseverance in difficult circumstances highlighted the grit and professionalism that have become hallmarks of his Supercars career.

Looking Ahead

The Darwin Triple Crown marked a significant milestone for Tickford Racing, with Cameron Waters delivering a standout performance to claim the coveted Triple Crown title and further strengthen his championship campaign.

A race win, two additional podium finishes and consistent pace across the weekend highlighted the strength of the Monster Castrol Racing Mustang and the team's ability to perform at the front of the field.

While Thomas Randle's weekend was unfortunately cut short due to medical reasons, his determination throughout the challenging conditions at Hidden Valley reflected the resilience and professionalism that define the Tickford Racing team.

The strong results in Darwin have helped Tickford Racing consolidate third position in the Supercars Teams Championship, reflecting the hard work, dedication and performance of the entire team as the season continues to unfold.

With momentum on their side, Tickford Racing now turns its attention to Townsville, where the team will be looking to build on its Darwin success and continue its push for championship honours in both the Drivers' and Teams' standings.
